The Alpinestars Orbiter suit is a brand new offering for 2013 that puts an emphasis on providing comfortable protection. Equally at home at track days, canyon carving or the street, the Orbiter is a great option for those looking to find an all around suit. It accomplishes this by combining track-tested Alpinestars protection technology with some new ergonomic features that are unique to this model.
The Orbiter is constructed using premium 1.3mm full-grain leather that is stitched together with heavy-duty, reinforced seams for maximum durability. Impact protection is provided by removable CE-certified protectors under the leather at the elbows, shoulders, knees/shins. The knee/shin protectors attach using a floating system that lets you place them where you need them to be for optimal coverage. Additional protection can be added to the back by connecting a Bionic Race back protector to one of the three snaps found towards the top of the spine. These tried and true methods of protection are not brand new to Alpinestars suits, but they are highly effective and have been used for a reason.
Ergonomically, the Orbiter starts to break away from the norm. Looking at the front of the suit, it is obvious that something is different. The front zipper is off center and runs up to the side of the collar instead of running right up the center. This, combined with the 3D mesh panel at the top of the front panel, a copious amount of stretch materials, and accordion stretch leather segments make the Orbiter an extremely comfortable suit to wear – whether you’re on the bike or off. It also vents air very effectively through the aforementioned 3D mesh on the front, as well as the back of the collar. Cooling is aided further by the ventilated back hump and perforated leather on the front, arms and back. No matter how much airflow a suit has, things do need to be freshened up from time to time and a removable mesh liner makes washing it a breeze.
