Motorcycle rain gear: it’s great in theory, but if you don’t have it with you when the weather turns, it’s useless. Here we share two options that are compact enough to carry with you in your backpack, saddlebag, or tank bag so you are always prepared for rain.

Tour Master Sentinel 2.0 Rain Jacket

Tour Master’s Sentinel 2.0 features a built-in rear pocket that fits the entire jacket when folded for easy storage. This jacket is constructed of waterproof ripstop nylon, making it extremely durable. The front zipper is covered with a flap that features a Velcro closure for extra water protection. An “Aqua-Seal” hood can be worn underneath a helmet to prevent water from entering the collar.

Zippered underarm vents and mesh-backed chest pockets provide airflow when you want it, but are waterproof when closed. Reflective details help you to be seen by other motorists, especially at night.

Alpinestars Quick Seal Out Two Piece Rainsuit

The Alpinestars Quick Seal Out Two Piece Rainsuit is another great option because it comes with both a jacket and pants. It folds up easily and fits into a small pouch (included) that doesn’t take up much space. The material is waterproof and both pieces feature taped seams to ensure water doesn’t get through.

Don’t Get Caught In The Rain – Gear Guide

Have you ever left for a motorcycle trip expecting it to rain at some point? Or perhaps you commute to work and there’s a chance it may rain on your ride home. There are many scenarios in which you may expect to encounter rain on your ride. Other times the rain is a complete surprise. Here we list some of our favorite Alpinestars Gear for those rainy rides, whether you expect it or not.

But First…

Keep in mind that water-resistant and waterproof do not mean the same thing! Waterproof means that the garment can be completely submerged in water and keep everything inside of it (you!) dry. Water-resistant means that the garment repels water, but doesn’t 100% guarantee to keep you dry.

Jacket & Pants

Alpinestars offers a variety of different waterproof jackets to suit your style of riding. One of our favorites is the Megaton Drystar Textile Jacket, for its versatility. This jacket not only has a water-resistant outer material, but also has two removable liners: a waterproof Drystar liner and a thermal liner. Having multiple liners allows you to customize the jacket for different conditions. For protection, it comes with CE Bio Armor in both the shoulders and elbows, as well as pockets to fit an Alpinestars Nucleon KR-1i Back Protector and Nucleon KR-Ci Chest Protector Inserts (both sold separately).

The Megaton Jacket has a 360 degree zipper around the bottom that allows it to attach to any Alpinestars riding pants. We like the Andes Drystar Waterproof Textile Pants, which feature the same type of Drystar waterproof and thermal liners as the Megaton Jacket.

Gloves

One of the most distracting things on a ride is having cold, wet hands. Coincidentally, you lose the most heat from your hands. We recommend investing in a pair of gloves that are both waterproof and abrasion resistant. The Alpinestars C-20 Drystar Leather Gloves have a full goat leather construction, as well as a Drystar waterproof membrane. For added protection, these gloves feature synthetic reinforcements on the palms and thumbs. They also have touch screen compatible index fingertips for the use of touch screen devices.

Footwear

“What if I run into rain and didn’t wear my waterproof gear?”

It’s bound to happen. Although you may not always have a full set of rain gear packed in your saddlebag, we recommend you keep something packed just in case you run into inclement weather.
