Features such as the vented external thermoplastic protection in the shoulder and elbow, internal GP style bio-armor in the elbow and forearm, offer the very best in protection.

Essentially the top half of their race replica suit, this jacket is not going to be your preferred jacket to go to the mall. This is an aggressively cut, race fit jacket made for spirited rides on your favorite road. A full 360 zip allows you to attach the optional GP Plus pants allowing you to take it to the track as well.

Available in black/white, and white/red.

The Alpinestars GP Tech Air leather jacket stays plenty cool on those hot summer rides with full perforation along the front panel and back panel. The jacket goes above and beyond with additional ventilation along the top of the GP hump and arms. Don’t worry, Alpinestars includes a removable windproof vest for the early morning or late evening rides.

As with their race suits, Alpinestars includes a foam back pad. We highly recommend adding the optional Alpinestars Bionic Race back protector that snaps in to the jacket itself. The jacket also includes pockets to add optional Alpinestars Bionic Chest inserts. Both are available from Riders Discount, be sure to ask about these optional additions when you place your order.

External thermoplastic protection

Plenty of ventilation with the Alpinestars GP Tech Air Jacket

More on the RS-1: The Bell RS-1 is a SNELL M2010 and DOT that sits in a sweet spot, both performance and price-wise. The sleek, aggressively shaped shell is made from a Kevlar/Fiberglass composite that makes it both strong and lightweight. The RS-1’s shell cuts a profile that is similar to that of the Bell Star, which results in an excellent aerodynamic balance that keeps buffeting to a minimum. Air also flows through the helmet very well. The Velocity Flow Ventilation system is adjustable and quietly keeps your head cool.

Internally, the Bell RS-1 is a comfortable place to be. The lining and cheek pads feel very plush on the skin, right out of the box. They also break in quickly. An Agion Antibacterial treatment helps keep things fresh, but the lining is fully removable and washable in case things get a bit too sweaty. The RS-1 comes with a clear NutraFog II anti-fog/anti-scratch shield, which is the same as the Star. The ClickRelease shield mechanism is also shared, making for shield changes that can be done in seconds. Be sure to ask about adding the popular Bell Transition shield to your order as well!

Brembo Radial Master Cylinders are found on the fastest bikes in the world because they’re powerful, reliable and built to exacting tolerances for consistent performance under a wide range of conditions. Brembo’s 19 RCS master cylinder is no exception. It offers the unique ability to change brake lever ratios from 19×20 (for power) to 19×18 (for feel) with a simple turn of the screw, something not possible on other Brembo brake master cylinders. The 19 RCS is manufactured using a combination of forge-casting and CNC-machining. Forged parts have a particular advantage over parts machined from billet when it comes to strength since the metal’s grain structure follows closely the shape of the part as it is pressed into its final form. After forging, the aluminum master cylinder blank is then machined to accept all of its hardware: banjo bolt, brake reservoir spigot, lever attachment and – most critical, the brake piston assembly. This multi-stage manufacturing process ensures both strength, through the forging process and precision via CNC finishing – both of which contribute to the master cylinder’s consistent, exacting performance that has made it the “must have” brake upgrade component.

Every Brembo 19 RCS master cylinder comes complete with a break-away lever for crash survivability, a dual-line banjo bolt and a micro-switch controller for street applications allowing you to activate the rear brake light without the need to buy a separate pressure-sensitive banjo bolt switch.

Hi everyone. Since my last update, a lot has happened. I flew out to Michigan to have a meeting with the guys at Riders Discount about preparation for Daytona and the fast approaching season. Then, I loaded up Brian’s (owner of Riders Discount) personal Triumph Daytona 675 and all the spare parts so I can become one with my new ride. From there I started the long drive from Michigan to Las Vegas for the second round of the WERA West series.

Friday’s track day morning was my first time out on her and it went well. But it was damn cold in the low 50s and a dirty track, so I took it pretty easy. Came in and Barry from KFG suspension made a ride height adjustment by lowering the rear for me to slow down the turn in.

The second session I went out and gradually got up to speed on her. The change was definitely the right direction by making the bike not so active overall. Barry lowered the rear some more for the third session.

In the third session my lap times came down quite a bit, and again the change was spot on. For session four we added some preload to the front and some compression too. Basically we were trying to take out the “stink bug” effect (rear way high and the front feeling like its under the motor) out out of it. That set up just doesn’t wok with my riding style, I prefer to steer the bike myself rather than the bike turn itself. Its purely rider preference.

Fourth session was much better, but still making the adjustments. Before session five we decided to make spring changes both front and rear to get the balance better. So on the front we went one step stiffer on both forks to keep the front from diving under hard braking and one step softer on the rear to add grip to the rear under acceleration.

Session five I was down into mid 1:17s (my track record was a 1:15.965) so I was feeling pretty good and all the the changes are spot on (Barrys knows his sh!t). Before the last session of the day we made only some clicker changes to the shock again trying to utilize the awesome torque of the Triumph.

Sixth and final session of the day I went out and rode some fast laps with the legend Jeremy Toye (on a liter bike) and threw down a couple 1:17:1s. That’s only 1.1 second off my track record and the fastest of the day.

I was extremely happy with my first day on her and our incredible progress Barry and I made on the setup. That evening Barry and I decided to try an offset change of the Attack Performance adjustable offset triple clamps, so we moved the offset forward 2mm again to slow down the turn in of the bike.

Saturday morning was still cold, about 48 and with wind gusts up to 27 mph. So I sat out the first two sessions hoping the temp would get little warmer. It did, so I went out tested the new offset. Wow what a better feel, my lap times were in the mid :17s but much easier and a smoother feel.

After lunch I had planned to race once that day in the middleweight (600cc) expert solo 20 laps. I started on row 5 and had my boy Tucker right behind me on row 6, I told him to stay right on my wheel off the start. When the flag dropped I got a good jump and plowed my way around everyone and I exited turn two in the lead and with Tucker right on my wheel just like we talked. LOL I put my head down and rode hard and basically went faster every lap (set my fastest lap on lap two at a1:16:429) till I ran into lappers about lap six. I was occasionally able to peak across the track to see Tucker holding down second. I was turning high 1:16s pretty easily and when I got some clean air on the 16th lap I did my 2nd fastest time a 16:496 on a tire with 16 laps on it, that’s pretty good! I also lapped up to 4th place and won by 32 seconds.

I pulled in from that race and instantly decided to race the heavyweight (1000cc) expert solo 20 lapper, the bike is so fun to ride and I felt AWESOME!!

I had to start from row 15 in the very last position because of my late entry. I had my work cut out though with a pretty stacked field with AMA Superbike riders David Anthony (holder of the overall track record at a 1:15:265 set the same day I set my 600cc record and AMA Superbike top 10 regular), Jeremy Toye on his Kawasaki ZX10, Cory West (now on the RSR EBR 1190 and my teammate last year), Dustin Dominguez (now Cory’s teammate on the EBR and the winner of several AMA Supersport races), fast club racer Cory Sarrors on his liter superbike, as well as AMA DSB racers Jake Gagne and JD Beach on their Yamaha R6’s all in front of me. I got a really good jump and was up into the top ten after turn two and made some gnarly passes into turn three.

By lap 5 I made way to third place with Toye and Anthony close in front of me. As we started lap 6, Toye pulled in to make suspension adjustments (he was using the the solo to tune for the sprint races) and left it to me and David to battle. It was so much fun! I was much faster in the tight stuff being on the smaller bike but he was killing me on the long back straight. I made the pass for the lead on lap 7 and pushed hard trying to get away but when I caught up to lappers it really hurt my tight section speed and he was able to get close enough to blow by on the back straight. I stayed close and on the following lap was able to pass him again and pulled a slight lead but once again the backmarkers played into him getting close enough to go by on the long straight. But this time about lap 16 I abused the tire way too much and just keep that pace in the tight stuff and had to settle for second. I did have the fastest lap of the race at a 1:16:242 and was stoked on the race and knew that tomorrow I could beat my lap record.

Sunday morning was slightly warmer about high of 52, and we had sprint races. In practice I took it easy and just got warmed up.

First race up was the 600cc superstock, I started on pole (being points leader) and had Bryce Prince to my left and Tucker on the very inside. I got a good jump but Tucker and his light butt got the holeshot but I inside outed him in turn one and tried to check out but there was a red flag due to Tyler Linders crash (heal up soon Tyler – broke his collar bone). So we lined up again and this time I got the holeshot and put my head down and set out to brake my lap record and on lap 2 I did a 1:15:424. I did it!!! I felt awesome. I knew with some adjustments I could even go faster. So Barry and I made some changes and I had my sights set on the overall track record!!

Race 2 was 600 superbike again on pole I was focused, got the holeshot, and pinned it and on the start of lap 2 leaving turn 1 I used a little too much track and dropped the rear off the edge of the track and spun sideways then it caught the asphalt and hi sided. It was a good one LOL Just a little bump on the knee but I’m fine. It was a real bummer because I knew I had it.

So that was the end of my weekend. But what a weekend, the bike is freaking awesome and this season is going to be so good. I know I have a great bike, team, an owner that wants to win as much as I do, and the support from all of you that are just as excited as I am about this.

This coming weekend I’m going to Willow Springs to ride and then Monday at Buttonwillow, I’m going to get even more one with the Triumph.

THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Joey

Team RidersDiscount.com #20 Sam Gaige returned to his winning ways over the weekend of 17-18 September, 2011 at Summit Point Raceway for the combined Northeast and Mid-Atlantic WERA Sportsman Series. The Rochester, New York native earned four wins on his Markbilt-prepared Yamaha YZF-R6 in cool conditions that were marked with a bit of peril and some unexpected changes in the weather too!

It all started off promising with weather predictions in the mid-60’s and no chance of rain. Evaluating notes from his last weekend at the West Virginia track, Gaige applied a few quick changes to his bike’s setup, installed a new clutch pack and added the Dunlop tires best suited for the anticipated weather. Arriving at the track early Saturday morning to sub-50°F air temps was expected, but then the rain came, and Sam chose to sit out practice. Without having any chance to evaluate his bike in practice, Sam went to his start position on the fifth row of the Heavyweight Expert Solo grid. After the green flag, Sam quickly made his way to the front on the still-drying track for a flag-to-flag victory. With one win in the bag and a bike handling impeccably, Gaige was ready for Sunday.

On Sunday, conditions were much the same, only without any precipitation. Gaige went to the line for his first race on the day, C SuperStock, looking to take another win. After a great start, coming into turn four on the second lap, his Yamaha starting shaking so violently that he immediately pulled off the track only to discover that the chain had wrapped itself around the rear sprocket! WERA officials quickly retrieved the bike and, having returned to the pits, Sam discovered that the countershaft sprocket had come off his bike! Luckily for him, the damage was only a pair of sprockets and a chain. With the issue addressed, Sam went on to convincing wins in B SuperStock, C SuperBike and B Superbike races. Along the way, only Brad Burns hounded Sam for a few laps in the last race before taking out a front-straight gap all the way to the checkered flag yet again.

Sam Gaige – “It was fun, I was riding really well and managed to set the fastest 600 lap of the weekend. I got there Saturday morning where it was a cool 48° and just as I was getting the bike ready it started to rain. Riding in the cold is one thing, but with the rain I decided to sit out practice along with the Middleweight Solo and do the Heavyweight Solo instead. For that race, the track never did dry completely and there were some sketchy patches out there, so I just built up a lead and held it to the end.

Sunday was better without the rain except for the chain coming off on the second lap of the C SuperStock race! I’m really lucky to walk away from that. The chain just wrapped itself around the rear sprocket and wore down some teeth. The crash truck got out there in no time, which allowed me to get everything fixed since nothing else was damaged. After that, the bike was great and it just worked perfectly for me. I’m really happy to come here and get a few wins on my Markbilt-prepared, Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6.”

Next up for Sam Gaige and Team RidersDiscount.com is the WERA Sportsman three-region event at Nelson Ledges Road Course in Warren, Ohio this coming weekend 24 & 25 September, 2011. Sam has had a great deal of success on the fast, flowing track where stability over the bumps is paramount for competitive lap times.

Team RidersDiscount.com was on the podium in every single event they entered at Grattan Raceway Park for WERA’s first-ever Double-Header weekend. The recently repaved track was well received by all and the pace was fast with lots of action on the track. With the notably hot summer weather, tire choice critical as grip on the track surface constantly changed every day with temperatures varying from practice to the green flag. Still, Team RidersDiscount.com riders Sam Gaige, Virginie “Frenchie” Massing and Brian Gibson came away with a combined total of four wins, five second-place finishes and two third place spots on the podium. Although Gaige has been a regular with WERA for over a decade, this was his first visit to the Western Michigan track. Brian was quick straight away and it didn’t take Sam long to put his pace up at the top of the lap charts. Frenchie, another Grattan regular, found a way to take another second off her best time on her way to a win!

Sam Gaige – “It was great to finally meet the entire RidersDiscount.com crew and learn a completely new track. Brian worked with me in Friday practice to get me up to speed and his knowledge helped. The guys were telling me that it’s the only place where the locals usually keep the national-level regulars honest and I can see why! That knowledge had them [the locals] dealing with lappers better than me, which cost me a few seconds here and there. Plus there were fast guys everywhere! My Markbilt-prepared, Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 ran like a champ all weekend and even though I didn’t get a win, it was the most fun I’ve had on the track in a long time!

It was easy to see that the Team RidersDiscount.com crew really know bikes and it made my weekend at this new place a lot easier. The level of hospitality was totally unexpected – I really want to go back. Plus the track layout is fantastic, there’s just nothing like it and I just want to come back here next year and get a few wins!”

Virginie Massing – “My weekend was great with a 1st place in the women’s expert class and a 3rd in Senior Superbike plus I took a second off my best time. Team RidersDiscount.com were a huge help with my Yamaha YZF-R6 and I had a great time with the whole crew. There’s something about being part of a team like RidersDiscount.com that motivates you to not only do good but also have fun while doing it. It was a really great weekend for me and the team!”

Brian Gibson (owner, RidersDiscount.com) – “It was a fun weekend for the whole team and although we didn’t have the superbike motor in the RidersDiscount.com Triumph Daytona 675, we still managed to put it on the top of the box in every race Saturday. It wasn’t all easy because, with the new pavement, we had to make some changes to the bike’s setup. Sunday’s race was shaping up to be a good one until the front end let go and I had a little crash in the bowl right after I set the fastest lap of the weekend up to that point. I gotta wonder what that last lap would have been hadn’t I fallen off. Other than that, it was really great to see Sam pick up the pace at Grattan where the locals usually rule the roost and Frenchie took over a second off her best time too. It was awesome to have three Team RidersDiscount.com bikes on the grid at our home track and I’m very satisfied with the results!”

Team RidersDiscount.com #20 Sam Gaige started off his 2011 racing season with great success during the Pirelli/WERA Sportsman Series event at Summit Point Raceway. Gaige took his Dunlop-shod Markbilt Yamaha YZF-R6 to three wins on Sunday with riding conditions that were constantly worsening as the day went on. The weather made it an especially challenging weekend for every racer and before the end of the day, Gaige too would succumb to the very green track surface and lost the front and crashed while in the lead during his last race of the weekend. Even after that, he was still able to complete the last race as the crash caused only cosmetic damage to his YZF-R6.

Sam Gaige – “I’ve been coming to Summit Point for fifteen years now and those were some interesting riding conditions. I had to break-in a new engine during the morning practices, so I really couldn’t get up to speed until it was time for the green flag. I got out there for each race with the goal of getting the hole shot and maintaining a steady gap for the lead. My Dunlop tires held up really well despite the cold weather and the only bad thing came from going out on cold tires that were new for the last race of the day and maybe pushing it a little too hard, too early. It was my first weekend out, so I can’t complain about the fall, it was a rookie mistake on my part. I’d like to thank RidersDiscount.com for the Alpinestars and Kushitani gear they provided for me because it’s all incredibly comfortable and held up very well in the crash, so I can’t complain about that! And I’m totally happy with my Markbilt-prepared YZF-R6. Mark builds incredibly strong engines and they carried me through to the finish in each race. I’d also like to give a big thanks to Mike Cerone for all of his support for 2011 which makes getting out there to race a lot easier!”

With the first weekend out of the way, Team RidersDiscount.com looks forward to Sam’s next event with WERA at Nelson Ledges at the end of April. Gaige enjoys the track for its fast turn and burn layout that demands an exact riding line to stay off the bumps. He’s had a great deal of success in the past and will be looking for more wins at another track he’s been visiting for many years.

Team RidersDiscount.com is pleased to announce WERA expert #771 Virginie Massing, better known as “Frenchie,” has signed to ride with Team RidersDiscount.com for the 2011 season. RidersDiscount.com will provide Virginie with technical apparel from Alpinestars, Kushitani, Arai helmets and women-specific Forcefield Armour in addition to technical support during the season.

Virginie Massing – “I’ve met so many great people to guide me and help me learn what I know now, but this is definitely a new chapter of my racing life! Until RidersDiscount.com helped me with my YZF-R6 at the WERA event at Grattan in 2010, I raced with a bone stock bike. Before that point, I had to do a lot of things myself and often went racing on my own. Now I’ll have a beautiful bike and some really good help from my new sponsor. RidersDiscount.com is more than just a sponsor to me, they have customer service that is number one and they are amazing friends. I am humble and proud to be part of Team RidersDiscount.com!”

Last year, Frenchie took the Women’s Superstock Expert Title in WERA’s North Central Division and also earned a notable second place in class at the WERA Endurance event at ViR with an all-female team. For 2011, Virginie will continue with her R6 racing in the Senior Superbike Middleweight and Women’s Superstock Expert classes with an eye towards another challenge at a yet to be announced endurance event in the season. For more information and updates, check out Riders Discount on Facebook (facebook.com/ridersdiscount) where we will post news, updates and additional information on Team RidersDiscount.com for the 2011 season.
