Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the Tech 1, Tech 10, and all of the boots in-between? Why spend nearly $600 on the Tech 10 when you can spend $200 on the Tech 1? Alpinestars’ Tech 1 Boot is a great entry-level boot. It has a three buckle design with a replaceable quick release system. Constructed with moisture-wicking textile, a steel toe guard, and soft foam padding, the Tech 1 offers a good level of protection for beginner riders. The upper Velcro closure allows for a wide variety of calf sizes to fit into this boot.
The Tech 3 boot is very similar to the Tech 1: both are entry-level and lower price points in comparison to the rest of the Tech line. The Tech 3 steps it up by adding a fourth buckle to the buckle closure system. Another difference between the 1 and 3 is the Tech 3 features action leather in the upper part of the boot.
In addition to the original, there are a two variations of the Tech 3. The women’s version, called the Stella Tech 3, has features similar to the original, but is designed to better fit female riders. There is also the Tech 3 All-Terrain Boot, which features an all-terrain high grip rubber compound sole with a contoured stainless steel shank and steel sole guard.

The multi-material Tech 5 Boot is what some may consider the “middle” of the Tech Line. A step up from the Tech 3, the 5 has polymer and fiberglass buckle arms and high-impact aluminum bridge closures that are both durable and lightweight. All four buckles on the Tech 5 are replaceable.

The Tech 7 boot features medial side panels with an advanced honeycomb rubber insert, allowing the rider to have excellent grip while still offering a high level of protection. This boot also incorporates Alpinestars’ TPU ankle protection system, which helps prevent leg damage by incorporating a bio-mechanical link between the middle and bottom sections, minimizing over-extension.
The Tech 7 also comes in an Enduro version. Specially designed with ATV and Enduro riders in mind, this boot features a compound sole, giving the rider “superior durability, grip, feel and a high level of structural rigidity.”
Alpinestars Mens Tech 8 RS Boots – Click Item to Purchase – MSRP $499.95
The Tech 8 RS has several additional features that the Tech 7 does not. It has a full inner bootie that is made with 3-D breathable mesh and a synthetic material chassis for extra support. Additionally, the bootie incorporates breathable textile lining on the ankle areas. This boot has perforated soft comfort padding with adjustable and replaceable shock absorbing gel inserts on the ankles.
For added protection, the Tech 8 has a TPU kick starter protection insert on the right boot. This insert is replaceable if needed. Both boots have a stamped steel toe and heel guard for extra durability and protection.

Considered by Alpinestars to be “the most technical moto boot ever conceived,” the Tech 10 truly is the crowning jewel of not only the Tech Line, but of all motocross boots. Anatomically shaped for perfect protection and comfort, the Tech 10 is used by racing professionals all over the world. In fact, it is the “winning-est moto boot in history.”
Its foot chassis is made up of five different polymer compounds, allowing it to be incredibly durable and lightweight. An “innovative” bio-mechanical inner ankle brace is constructed of medial and lateral C torsion bars, controlling ankle and leg rotation while still allowing movement.
